How to get stardust in Pokémon GO

Stardust in Pokémon GO

Stardust is an important resource in the Pokémon GO world. It’s one of the two resources you need to power up your team, the other being Pokémon Candy.

Unlike Pokémon Candy, all of your Pokémon share the same pool of stardust. Once you run out of stardust, your entire pool is gone and you need to stock up.

Ways to earn stardust

There are at least three ways to get more stardust:

1. Catch Pokémon

This is the easiest way to get more stardust. Catch some more Pokémon to net yourself 100 stardust per catch! If you’re looking low on Poké balls, don’t worry: there are plenty of ways to get more Pokéballs. Even if you can’t find new Pokémon to catch, it’s a good idea to catch duplicates. You can use their Pokémon Candy and stardust on the duplicate Pokémon with the highest CP (Combat Points).

2. Hatch eggs

Hatching egg can net you a large amount of stardust. Stardust isn’t awarded in groups of 100 when you hatch an egg, which is the reason your stardust count won’t always be a nice, round number.

How much stardust does hatching eggs yield?

From experience, hatching a 5km egg will give you at least 1000 stardust, but that number is variable.

3. Station your Pokémon in a friendly gym

This method will net you 200 stardust per Pokémon per day.

If you’ve already reached Level 5 and chosen a team, you can keep your Pokémon in friendly gyms (gyms that are the same team as you). For every day that your each of your Pokémon successfully defends a gym, you’ll receive a defender bonus of 200 stardust and 100 PokéCoins.

However, you’ll need to make your Pokémon pretty strong before you can use this method. If you’re still on a lower level (i.e. below level 10), keep training your team and catching more Pokémon.
