The special announcement from Niantic on December 12/13 not only came with the 2016 Holiday Event, it has introduced the first of the Generation 2 Pokémon. These are the Pokémon that first appeared in Pokémon Gold and Silver.
It is currently only possible to catch Generation 2 Pokémon by hatching eggs. Your existing eggs won’t hatch any new Pokémon, since the Pokémon that appear in your eggs are decided when you retrieve them from Poké Stops. It’s best to hatch your old eggs to make some room for the new eggs. The baby Generation 2 Pokémon that have been confirmed to hatch from eggs include:
Igglybuff (2km egg)
Igglybuff, baby version of Jigglypuff, can hatch from 2km eggs.
Cleffa (2km egg)
Clefairy’s baby version Cleffa has historically come from 2km eggs.
Pichu (5km egg)
Pichu evolves into Pikachu and has been documented to hatch from 5km eggs.
Smoochum (10km egg)
Smoochum, Jynx’s baby version, comes from 10km eggs.
Elekid (10km egg)
Electabuzz’s baby form Elekid hatches from 10km eggs.
Magby (10km egg)
Magby, the baby Magmar, hatches from 10km eggs.
Undocumented Generation 2 baby Pokémon
There are still a few baby Pokémon from Generation 2 that have yet to appear in eggs:
- Togepi, which isn’t the baby version of any Generation 1 Pokémon, has yet to appear. It is suspected that it will hatch from 5km eggs.
- Tyrogue, which evolves into Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan and new Pokémon Hitmontop, is not yet expected to hatch from any eggs.
